At our last introduction of Ed's book at the R.E.D. Storytelling Conference on the Winter Solstice, our first round of books sold out quickly and we promised a second round would be available for our community soon. They have arrived and the next public sale and signing will take place at the SOU Spring Pow Wow April 10 and 11. (SOU McNeal Gym on Whitman St. in Ashland, table for books will be set up by Noon).

Greetings Relatives, Friends and Community,

Below you will find information about Ed Little Crow's book release. Thank you for taking the time to read it, to celebrate with our family the fruition of a project that has been nurtured and sculpted for some years now out of the well-worn, dusty stacks of Eddie's handwritten poetry. Our dear, longtime friend, Antoinette Claypoole, has generously gifted her editing skills and her independent press, Wild Embers, to bring some of Eddie's words, poems and teachings to print. It has been a labor of love for a Native elder who has taken decades of sorrow and struggle for Indian people and transformed them to words, with the hope and prayer they can help others, inspire others, teach others about a way of life that is from the past, bridging to the days before reservation life, before the attempts of genocide, when the People inhabited their homelands and were Human Beings.

I put this forth to our R.E.D. mailing list because Eddie has been an important elder in our community, a mentor, a spiritual adviser, and a keeper of the Old Ways. He often feels like a misfit in our society, and people don't know what to make of him. He is often severely misunderstood and therefore not allowed to share his knowledge. This book, as you will see below, is a window into his past, his present situation and our future chance to LEARN from our precious elders. It is a small and humble representation of his life. It is a tribute. From our family, I'd like to share this with you. . .

Poems, stories and memories by Ed Little Crow, Lakota/Dakota veteran of the Seige of Wounded Knee, 1973 member of the Elder's Council in Southern Oregon.

This is a collection of Little Crow's writings and thoughts about the world as we find it now, the world as he knew it when he was young. "Dreaming" is a quintessential journey into the borderlands of human survival. Included are his poems from the 1980's and 90's, previously unpublished stories about the American Indian Movement, and commentaries about "being Indian", all transcribed from Little Crow interviews conducted in Ashland, Or. 2006.

Book includes tribute to Dave Chief (1929-2005), Lakota, photos by antoinette nora claypoole and old AIM images donated by Robert Robideau (RIP Feb. 2009).

Sharon Doubiago, Oregon Literary Arts “poetry book of the year” award winner, praises Little Crow's new work:

There are no elders anymore to make predictions or prophecies to teach people,
