About the Red Earth Descendants
Objective
The R.E.D. community follows instructions given to us by our elders, including the knowledge of indigenous prophesies. We have been told it is important to work together to create a sustainable land base. We strive to provide a place and a way to form true human beings. In order to do so, we must take care of ourselves and each other--mentally, physically, spiritually and through community-building. We support these elements of our health through the four events R.E.D. sponsors each year: Winter Storytelling, Spring Native Stick Games, Summer Elder/Youth Conference/World Peace and Prayer Day, Fall First Nations Day/Native EcoSymposium. Each of these events honors our elders for the wisdom they hold and gift to us. It is our responsibility to carry these traditions forth to the next Seven Generations.
Mission Statement
Red Earth Descendants is a grassroots, indigenous-based organization committed to creating healthy, sustainable community while preserving Native values, traditions and culture. Our core strength is in joining our youth, elders, families and regional tribes together to share knowledge and skills. As we practice healthy community interaction, our goal is to give Native teachings to the next Generations of life.
Vision Statement
R.E.D. has the vision to steward a shared piece of land where our community can strive for sustainability in some of the following ways: cultural gatherings, growing food, creating a seed bank, building earth lodges and an eco-village, holding Ceremony, taking care of our elders, children and each other in a safe and nurturing environment.
Seasonal Events
We host four seasonal events a year, corresponding to the seasons during each solstice and equinox.
These are the spring Native games, summer Elder-Youth Conference, fall Native Harvest Gathering, and winter Storytelling.
Watch for details of these events on our calendar!
