A letter written to a former owner about the Bele'm Original Watercolor
Dear Mr.
"Thank you for sending along the print of an (original) watercolor done by me 38 years ago. (Now 59 years ago). The location of it is, Bele'm, Brazil, near the mouth of the Rio Par'a, part of the Amazon basin. It is easy to find on the map. I was on assignment for Varig Airlins, painting some of the major stops.
Bele'm was one of them. I also managed to do a few things for myself. I have another painting very similar to it that I kept as a reminder of that trip. Since this is not a subject that I would normally paint today, and since it was also done (38 years ago), now (59 years ago) when I was just starting out and working in a style somewhat different from the way I work today, it would not be of interest to my galleries. HOW IT EVER FOUND ITS WAY TO THE OPEN MARKET IS A MYSTERY TO ME. Thank you for your interest in the paining.
Sincerely yours,
Arthur Shilstone"
