R.E.D.'s Elder~Youth Conference, 2010
We invite you to our 5th Annual Elder~Youth Conference, June 17-20 at EarthTeach Forest Park. Our Elder~Youth camp is a family-oriented event that allows our community to camp-out together for four days in the beautiful Southern Oregon mountains east of Ashland. We join children, youth and elders in the old, traditional way of "being a tribal village together."
This year we look forward to more teachings from elders and tribal representatives who carry traditional knowledge. Our itinerary looks something like this:
R.E.D.'s Community Garden is PLANTED and GROWING!
Red Earth Descendants invites you to participate in our community garden once again this year. After a hugely successful harvest last year, we are inspired to keep growing the "Three Sisters" (corn, beans and squash) together. We will use this spot on our website to keep you updated about work parties, ways you can help, who to contact if you have questions, etc..
Trading Post Updates
Greetings,
Through careful deliberation we have decided as a RED community that our Trading Post will honor Healers and medicine oriented practices under the category of "Traditional Healing Methods." A Traditional Healing Method is a practice or art form of medicine that comes from one of the four directions or four medicine bundles. This could otherwise be called a "Lineage." We are encouraging all who fall into new-age, hybridized categories to add their businesses to the Sustainable Wellness Guide or to the Webspirit Community, as the audiences there are more receptive to this kind of business.
We also want to make it clear that listings should not sell ceremonies of any kind, as we believe ceremony should not be advertised or sold.
Movie: "Frozen Dreams"
Red Earth Descendants encourages our local community to come out and support Unete and all the amazing work they are doing for immigration reform in Southern Oregon. R.E.D. and Unete have joined hands in developing a non-profit brother~sister organization called "Natives of One Wind Indigenous Alliance (NOWIA).
In support of each other as Native groups from the North and South, we as R.E.D. want to lend our support and blessings for the outreach and education Unete offers our community. Please support Unete, become educated about immigration issues and reform!
Living Waters Family Camp & Powwow
The family camp is for all ages and was a huge success last year. Limited full and partial scholarships are again available this year on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please register early. All takes place in Turner (also know as Salem), OR.
